Province Details

See Wikipedia; also see Canada for information relating to the country as a whole, and the national operator VIA Rail.

Maps

Québec province is covered by the SPV "North America Railroad Atlas" volume Quebec & Labrador.

Rail Operators

Regional services from Montréal to Senneterre and Jonquière are operated by VIA Rail.

exo

Réseau de transport métropolitain operate public transport services around Montréal under the exo brand, including local/commuter passenger trains.

  • Infrastructure: see national details. With the conversion of the Deux Montagnes line for the REM project, there is no longer any main line electrification.
  • Map: on the train schedules page, click the "Access to the network" tab. Note that if the map includes the Deux Montagnes line it is out of date. As of January 2023, there is a current map at the STM website. The timetable pages for individual exo lines have interactive maps.
  • Timetables: on the train schedules page, follow the links for individual lines, then click the Information tab for a PDF timetable for that line.
  • Real-time information: Pantograph includes exo rail services - use the filters to select the desired services.
  • Disruptions: the service status page shows real-time information.

Note that parts of some exo routes are also used by VIA Rail services.

Train de Charlevoix

This operator provides services between Québec city and La Malbaie, north-east along the St. Lawrence shoreline, on their own line (the Chemin de Fer de Charlevoix). The service is aimed mainly at tourists, with trains typically running only once or twice each day, during summer months only. The website includes English information.

Note that Train de Charlevoix services use their own Québec station, at Chute-Montmorency, not the VIA Rail station at Québec-Palais.

Transport Ferroviaire Tshiuetin

This operator provides services between Sept Iles and Schefferville, in north-eastern Québec province, via Emeril Junction in the Labrador region of Newfoundland province. The route is a mix of current and former Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway lines, and is isolated from the rest of the Canadian rail network. The website is in French only.

The Facebook page has intermittent posts with additional information.
