Obscure services

Al-Mafraq - Amman – Qatraneh JO1

The Jordanian section of the 1050mm gauge Hedjaz Railway, based on Amman has no normal regular passenger traffic, but photographic specials by various tour operators are occasionally advertised in the railway enthusiast press covering parts, but not all of the network.

There are also locally advertised excursions on non-religious Jordanian holidays - with the Jordan Hejaz Railway website in February 2024 advising "Family trips depart on Fridays and Saturdays of every week, and on holidays" from Amman to Al-Jiza at 0900, returning from Al-Jiza at 1400. A contact advised limited alternative trips commenced in Autumn 2024, then a later website notice advised all were temporarily suspended due to track maintenance, but also "confirmed that train flights will resume with the start of spring [2025], including three major destinations: north to the tourist city of Em Jamal, south to the Giza region, as well as extended flights to Tarran.
