There is now no "national" railway but at maximum there was an over 120km Narrow Gauge line around the western coast of the Island. A tourist service commenced on a re-laid 4km stretch of the above based on [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gare_de_la_Grande-Chaloupe Grande-Chaloupe] but had ceased by 1996 due to a combination of weak bridges and nesting Salanganes rare birds in one of the tunnels used. So it was unexpected to find a YouTube video dated September 2024 of one of the original Railcars coupled to a small diesel running on tracks at Grande Chaloupe station. The length of track available is unknown [press comment "enjoyed a ride of a few minutes" with footage showing traversing a tunnel and a small viaduct] but it appears to be an irregular event, [https://freedom.fr/a-la-grande-chaloupe-un-voyage-dans-le-temps-sur-les-rails-de-la-reunion-dimanche-6-avril-2025-de-10h-a-13h30/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKEV19leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHtLbaRwn0TTJWWdxNI8kr_CFDm4dWnOJoWlcXT79RUA-I6rbaeUg_0EIKmCT_aem_pt1KuWKjELNrCqb0-q5Upg last known on 6 April 2025] so check their [https://www.facebook.com/titrainreunion Facebook page] or [https://linktr.ee/titrainreunion?fbclid=IwY2xjawKEVXxleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHltlwoeyJQMfsoG3GN7kKzs83EWjr0V47UPoaFBrj-rpx787SHtI92hI0lB1_aem_XkkH0UyfeBg9OVltj-G4JQ website]. None. Unlike nearby Mauritius, Réunion thought about trams but it has not progressed as wiki says "The [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramway_de_La_R%C3%A9union tram-train project] was abandoned in 2010 and was not based on the same route [as the long closed NG Railway]. The same is true for the [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramway_de_La_R%C3%A9union Réunion Island tramway project] launched in 2018 but no further information is found online in recent years.
