Railway System

As an island microstate, Singapore has no national rail system as such. The Malaysian national operator, KTMB, provides passenger service to a Singapore terminal at Woodlands - see Malaysia.

Singapore MRT

There is an extensive metro system covering most parts of the island. The system is operated by two separate companies:

  • SMRT: East West Line, North South Line, Circle Line, Thomson-East Coast Line
  • SBS Transit: North East Line, Downtown Line

Despite the split in ownership, information and fare systems are shared. See also UrbanRail.

Infrastructure

  • Gauge: standard
  • Electrification: 1500V DC overhead (North East Line); 750V DC third rail (other lines)
  • Rule of the road: left
