Railway System
There is no national rail network in Mauritania as such - just a single line built to transport iron ore from mines in the Zouérat area to the port at Nouadhibou.
The line is owned and operated by the Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM); passengers are conveyed in coaches attached to iron ore trains. See Wikipedia for more information.
A short section of the SNIM line in the Choum area crosses Western Sahara.
