This page provides a summary of countries and territories in North America and the Caribbean without individual pages. They are thought by the compilers to have no passenger rail services, and often no operational railways at all. We would be grateful for any updates.

North and Central America

Country Status
Belize All lines had closed by the late 1950s. See Railways of the World
El Salvador The last passenger service ceased in 2013 and the system now appears to be derelict. See Railways of the World
Greenland (Denmark) No known railways have ever existed.
Guatemala 1.5km of line from Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico crosses into Guatemala. Contracts were let in 2019 for a detail design study into a tram route serving Guatemala City. In 2021, a pre-feasibility study was launched into a new railway to link with the line from Mexico. See Railways of the World
Nicaragua All railways had closed by the early 21st century. See Railways of the World

Caribbean

The only Caribbean country known by the compilers to have extensive passenger rail services is Cuba. Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico have metro systems; Barbados, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Kitts and Nevis have tourist railways.

Antigua and Barbuda The sugar cane system ceased operation in 1971. See Railways of the World.
Aruba (Netherlands) No railway known to have existed
Bahamas a small railway on Cat Island was abandoned in the early 20th century
Bermuda (United Kingdom) The railway closed in 1948. See Railways of the World.
Bonaire (Netherlands) No railway known to have existed
British Virgin Islands (United Kingdom) No railways known to have existed
Cayman Islands (United Kingdom) No railways known to have existed
Curaçao (Netherlands) Only industrial lines, which had closed by 1920. See Railways of the World.
Dominica The only known railway was abandoned by 1914
Grenada A short industrial tramway. See Railways of the World.
Haiti The last presumably passenger line closed during the latter half of the 20th century. A sugar cane plantation line closed towards the end of the 1980s. See Railways of the World.
Montserrat (United Kingdom) No railway known to have existed
Saba (Netherlands) No railway known to have existed
Saint Barthélemy (France) No railway known to have existed
Saint Lucia All former railways abandoned
Saint Martin (France) No railway known to have existed
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines No railway in existence today
Sint Eustatius (Netherlands) No railway known to have existed
Sint Maarten (Netherlands) No railway known to have existed
Trinidad and Tobago The last remaining line closed in 1968. See Railways of the World.
