  • The Metro-North Commuter Railroad Company usually referred to as Metro-North and operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, provides services in the lower Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey (in conjunction with New Jersey Transit), and Western Connecticut. A system map is here and a zoomable pdf at the bottom of this page.

  • NJ Transit Rail Operations is the rail division of NJ Transit. It operates commuter rail service in New Jersey, with most service centred on transportation to and from New York City, Hoboken, and Newark. A system map can be downloaded by clicking here.

Tourist Lines

  • The Adirondack Railroad - formerly the Adirondack Scenic Railroad is a heritage railway serving the Adirondack Park that operates over 108-miles (174 km) of former New York Central Railroad trackage between Utica and Tupper Lake. See also Obscure or Sparse Passenger Services NY13.
  • Arcade and Attica Railroad This a shortline and heritage railroad operating between Arcade and North Java, New York. Passenger excursion trains from May to October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Passenger trains operate 7-miles (11.5 km) from Arcade to Curriers station
  • Catskill Mountain Railroad. A heritage tourist railroad based in Kingston, New York which operates over 4.7-miles (7.6 km) of the former New York Central Railroad Catskill Mountain branch from Kingston to Stony Hollow, New York. In March 2024, the New York State Department of Transportation awarded the CMRR a New York State Passenger and Freight Rail grant for $667,000 to develop a Terminal at Basin Road adjacent to the Ashokan Rail Trail.
  • Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad operates heritage trains for 8 miles (13 km) between Cooperstown and Milford. Note that Milford is also home to the 18 inch gauge Milford Park Railway.
  • Delaware and Ulster Railroad Passenger excursion rides resumed in September 2025 with the return of fall foliage trips, operating East out of Arkville to Fleischmanns (4-miles (6.4 km).
